Plant Trees

“The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit” - Nelson Henderson (Farmer and WWI Veteran)

Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. They also provide jobs to 1.6 billion people, absorb dangerous carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines. It is important to save them and to support also individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, protect biodiversity, and help reforestation efforts.

The CO2 emissions, if they exceed determined concentrations in the air could become pollutants. For this reason, it is important to curb the forces that are emitting too much, but mostly we can avoid damages by storing nature, especially trees. By doing this we can keep global temperatures from rising 2°C avoiding bad future impacts.

Moreover, trees play a key role in capturing rainwater and reducing the risk of floods and landslides. Their roots are filters, removing pollutants and absorbing water contained into the soil. A study taken by the UN Food and Agriculture Association demonstrates that a mature evergreen tree can intercept 15,000 liters of water a year.

There are so many associations that help individuals and businesses to plant a tree and promote reforestation. In Serra da Mantiqueira (Brazil), a union is working to reforest 3 million acres of land, while in New Guinean villages of fishermen are planting mangroves to attract fish and store carbon. At the global level, several companies are supporting countries to protect forests, in order to fight against climate change.
